Val d'Infern
Sound installation, 1-channel, Espace Libre, Biel/Bienne 2014
The chipboard construction with the slightly overhanging long side narrows the space and focuses on the quarrystone wall and thus on the mountain at the foot of which the room is located. The origin of the audio level, which is reproduced by the bass loudspeaker, derives from low-frequency seismic measurement data, frequencies that have been made audible to the human ear using a computer program specially developed for this purpose.
The measured data come from a long-term geological survey of a rock rib in the grisons (Val d'Infern, Calancatal). On the sequence taken, the smallest vibrations are recorded that preceded a major rockfall.
