BIENNALE BREGAGLIA BONDO 2024, seven-part sound installation
The installation extends over several locations and can be heard from the outside at various places as you walk through the village; from the small Grotti, from closed doors of private houses, and ends in the town hall on the village square.
The work enters into a dialog with its surroundings, its past and present. (The village Bondo, where the Biennale took place, was hit by a huge rockfall in 2017, the traces of which can still be seen.) Following the wind through the valley, a steady breath of air from the cracks in the mountain, called Sorèl, becomes a rhythm, becomes words, sentences, a story. A focus is posed on the story The Bees of Plurs by the writer and strong female personality of the valley Silvia Andrea (1840-1935) and on the particular sensitivity of the bees which she addresses in her text; She tells how the whole bee population in Plurs escaped four days before the devastating rockfall in 1618. “The bees of Plurs were wiser than humans, with their keen senses they felt the movements of Monte Conto and evaded being buried alive.”
